Photography is a Team Effort…

Photography is a Team Effort

I was inspired to write this post following a conversation I had earlier this evening with one of my friends. He was complimenting me on the standard of my work at the time and although I ws secretly touched by his remarks I tried to be modest by downplaying my role by giving my stock answer in this situation “no, all I did was to stand there and press the button.” In essence this is true but as every photographer knows there are a few other things to do too.

I also mentioned that is wasn’t just me and that it is important to remember that this type of photography is very much a team effort. In the images above Kamilla had spent an hour with the prep-team: the very talented Michelle Court from Court-on-Camera on the brushes and Joey Bevan from Pointed Brown Shoes as both hair stylist and stylist. Both of whom are extremely quick at working their magic which really helps to maximise shooting time.

It is always great to receive compliments about my work but I do like to think of it this way…

We’re all part of the same, multi-functional team. We all have a different role to play and a different job to do. When we do our jobs well we create stunning images. We’re all part of the creative process. We all share the success.

For this shot, the entire team was made up as follows.

Very fortunate today to receive a lovely email from the SWPP informing me that my recent submission was sufficient for me to be given my Licentiate.

What does this mean? Quite simply, I can now put LSWPP after my name and now work towards becoming an associate member. The images will also be published in a future edition of Professional Image Maker.

Digital photography… Are we in danger of missing the point?

I was inspired to write this post by this very image. You may not notice it but it has been cropped to meet the requirements of a double page spread for a magazine article. Before you ask, not its not going to be published but it will feature in my book. Most likely as one of the leading images. And that is what inspired me to write this. The very fact that I printed this image as two pages of a 14″x11″ album and I was absolutely blown away by th quality of the finished product.

Turning to the dark side…

Had a major problem last month. I turned the laptop on and it came up “Internal had disk failure” and wouldn’t boot 🙁 I am soooo glad I had all my work backed up. The laptop did eventually start but after a heart sopping failure like that I lost all confidence in it and was loathe to put any revenue work on it just in case. Joined-up thinking

I’ve played around with Google Calendars in the past with a view to providing an on-line availability feature for my wedding and portrait websites but never really pursued it very far. It looked like it could be useful but I needed to figure out exactly how I was going to use it. Now I have the Android phone with seamless integration between the phone calendar and Google Calendars it’s very definitely on the agenda once more.
