Had a major problem last month. I turned the laptop on and it came up “Internal had disk failure” and wouldn’t boot 🙁 I am soooo glad I had all my work backed up. The laptop did eventually start but after a heart sopping failure like that I lost all confidence in it and was loathe to put any revenue work on it just in case.
Problem was I needed a machine to process the images from the fashion course I was taking with Bruce Smith a few days later so desperately needed something I could rely on. Looking around some of the big name vendors, getting a replacement was going to cost a lot of money for the spec. I was looking at. Then a colleague suggested goingn for a Mac. At first I thought this was a crazy idea but th more I tought about it the more I grew to like it. I did some research and found that the spec. of machine I was looking at was comparative if not cheaper than the equivalent laptop. I also discovered that I could upgrade from LR2/CS3 to LR3/CS5 across platform and I was sole. Or rather the MacBook was. Popped into the Apple store on my wy home and picked up a shiny new MacBook Pro with a 17″ screen.
First impressions – great piece of kit. Was a bit quirky at first, after all, I’d been using PCs since the mid-80’s and so had grown up with them.
Now I’ve used it for a month or so I’m very, very impressed and glad I made the choice I did.
Sometimes the dark side isn’t so dark after all 😉
