I don’t normally do black and white but when I was processing this image in Lightroom it felt like the right thing to do. The original had a very muted colour palette to the extent it was virtually grey scale to start with. After applying a few tweaks this is the result.
I’m not overly pleased with the result though. It doesn’t feel as though this is the final image yet so any suggestions more than welcome. Alternatives and original image after the jump.
This second image is an alternative crop taken from the one above. Thank heavens for the 5D Mk II and it’s abundance of megapixels or this wouldn’t have worked.
The final image is the original from which the other two were derived, prior to adding the Lightroom preset. It has had a contrast boost, a greyscale conversion and I crunched the blacks too. The biggest problem I see with the original is the overall lack of contrast leading to the hazy image and washed out silhouette of St. Michael’s Mount.
