I want to add some focus (sorry for the pun but I simply couldn’t resist it) to my work as a means to improve my technique in specific areas. One of the ways I’m planning to do this is through a series of personal projects.
These are specific, constrained photoshoots that concentrate on one aspect or technique. The aim of the personal project is to hone the skill of the photographer in that area. There is a great podcast on this very subject over on Camera Dojo
Which is where I got the idea from. I’d recommend listening to that podcast, there are some great tips in there on how to define and run the project.
So, what projects am I planning?
I’m only going to give the headline for the projects in this post, but I’ll link to the project briefs as and when I define them here.
Gothic fashion
This is similar to some of my usual work but I’ve not managed a gothic/alternative shoot yet. None of the ones I’ve planned to date have actually come off yet.
Boudica Cruise
This is going to be difficult to pull off. It’ll need a lot of planning and rigging and a lot of hardware to boot. I have a very strong visualization for this shoot and it’ll only give one image in it’s present guise.
Martial Arts
I’ve always been fascinated by martial arts but never really made time to take it up. I love the discipline and honour and the blind faith in one’s abilities to pull off some amazing moves.
This is something I really want to shoot. All I need is an expert volunteer and access to a dojo.
There is a variation on this shoot too, that of boxing and fencing and virtually any other close combat sport.
Skaters
Can’t take all the credit on this one as the idea was given to me by Rob over at http://rt-images.co.uk. If you’re reading this Rob, it was you’re idea so I’ll make sure you’re included too.
