Looking Forwards – Setting the Goalposts

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while. A very long while in fact. I want to write down my goals for the business and where I want to take it. It’s a difficult post to write because my ideas have been constantly changing and that’s a bad thing. It’s been leading to me chasing rainbows rather than concentrating on a longer term strategy.

So, were do I want to go?

Ultimately I want to grow Gavin Thorn Photography into a £1m business.

That will take time and it’s also very apparent that I’m not going to do it without help. I simply don’t have the bandwidth to do so.

Setting the Direction…

Gavin Thorn Photography has a number of aspects to the business. Each will be summarised here

Fashion Photography

My fashion photography is all about prestige. My fashion work will be primarily about getting published in glossy magazines and shooting “high profile” events such as London Fashion Week. As a revenue generator it will be very poor to start off with but it will provide bragging rights to wow the clients and allow me to dictate higher prices.

Fashion photography is a differentiator, not a USP.

Commercial and Corporate Photography

Bread and butter work. This will be the primary thrust of the business, certainly in the short term.

Portraiture

Split into several distinct areas to cover babies, children and families through QTPortraits and makeovers through ChicPixel

Weddings

Two distinct areas…

Low end through QTWeddings

High end through Gavin Thorn Photography

theLightMatters – Photography Workshops and Training

Build and nurture a photographic community who are interested in imprving their technique, learning new skills and photo-shoots beyond the reach of most people.

Other Activities

Cards, fne art images, stock etc.
