Cloud storage for a photography business

Cloud storage — is it viable for a photography business?

I’ve looked into cloud storage as an off-site backup solution several times in the past. On face value storing images in the cloud seems the perfect solution technically:

  • you have access on the go
  • off-site backup
  • high availability and no maintenance

there are several show stopper reasons why it’s not viable (for me at least).

Writing my first photography book…

Blogging with Scrivener

My first photography book is almost here…

Ever since I started theLightMatters I’ve wanted to write a book. Trouble is I’ve never been able too start. Every time I start a blank document in Word and start to type I find I end up distracting myself with styles, paragraph formats and making it look pretty. In fact, I do everything but write the damned book. Needless to say I never got very far before shelving it for a few months, hoping to pick it up again later.

Spyder2Express no longer working after upgrade to Mavericks…

A few weeks ago I upgraded my MacBook from Snow Leopard to Mavericks. Everything has been fine (apart from the battery life is now dreadful) until yesterday when it was time to recalibrate the display.

I’ve been using a Spyder2Express for a few years now without any problems – it does the job and the results are good for the work I undertake. Sadly it’s time has now passed. The Mac version of the calibration software no linger runs under Mavericks – I did some digging and it appears its a PowerPC app and needs an emulator to run on a intel platform. It all happened silently under Snow Leopard – the os launching the emulator when required allowing the app to run.

This emulator, affectionately known as Rosetta, is no longer part of Mavericks Continue reading Spyder2Express no longer working after upgrade to Mavericks… »
