New wedding package announced…

Been a bit quiet around here of late, so much so that I had to move the tumbleweed out in order to get to the “New Post” button. There was a reson for this though – I’ve been way too busy of late with photoshoots, the David Hobby “Strobist” seminar and of course putting together a new wedding package.

The latter of course being the subject of this post :-). All the details can be found after the jump but as a front-page teaser, I’ve been figuring out how I can give an iPad away to my clients.

Yes, that’s right I’ve designed the wedding package fo the 21st Century: the iPad Package.

This is a fantastic offer for the Bride and Groom and compared to a lot of other packages being offered in my area is amazing value for money. Clients who book the iPad Package receive a 32GB WiFi enabled iPad with their choice of up to 80 images from their special day. If that’s not enough, they still get the same level of service from yours truly: exclusive, full day’s coverage by me, pre-visits to the venues, on-line proofing and a free pre-wedding photoshoot.

Why have I done this? Simple really, it was an obvious choice and a controlled reaction to a shift in market trend. I’ve been getting more and more requests for images to be supplied on DVD and as a result adjusted my Premier package accordingly earlier in the year. Rather than a DVD though I actually elected to go for a USB flash drive instead. It’s slightly different and much easier for me to handle. With the release of the iPad, it’s time for an adjustment to my package line up again, hence the birth of the iPad Package.

During my analysis I canvassed a lot of people and there was an underlying theme: most would not buy the iPad but would like one if it were given to them (no surprises there then). Some would then elect to sell it in favour of taking the cash. One or two were adamant that they wouldn’t want one no matter what. Thankfully none of the latter matched the profile of the client I am targetting 🙂

My take on the iPad is this: it’s a brand new device that is defining its own market. It looks fantastic and if Apple’s previous products are anything to go by this latest addition to their portfolio will be a resounding success. I can see the iPad becoming the wedding album of the future. Maybe not in its current guise but it will get there. Failing to embrace this technology now would be nothing more than myopic denial. Just as digital has transformed photography in recent years, the iPad will transform the wedding album. There will always be a need for luxurious, printed and bound albums but the iPad will start to carve out a fairly large slice of that market over the next few years.

The wedding album is dead, long live the wedding album.
