If you’ve ever been asked “how much do you charge for photography?” and been unsure what to say, I’ve written this article just for you.
When I first started to charge for my photography, I made a ton of mistakes. I was really busy and it generated a lot of referrals but I wasn’t earning any money. Worse still, all those client referrals expected the same price too, further compounding the situation.
Something had to change and this is what I did. I want to share it with you so you don’t make the same mistakes I did when I first started out.
Coming up with a price is easy: after all, it’s just a number and they’ll either say “yes” or “no”. But how do you know if the number is right before you tell them?
How to increase your customers by driving more traffic
New customers are the lifeblood of every business. In fact, they’re a necessity. Without them you don’t really have a business.
Everything we’ve covered in this series thus far has been internal to your business. We’ve looked at changes to your offering, sales process and customer touch points. Why? Because we want to get your customers buying more stuff from you at better margins. We’ve laid the groundwork to start looking now at driving more visitors to your gallery.
Why haven’t we done this before now? It’s very simple: there’s little benefit in investing time and effort in driving more traffic to your gallery if it doesn’t convert. It’s won’t create customers, maximise your sales opportunity or make you any money. All the effort you’ve put in to getting visitors will be wasted.

There’s no denying it, the stock photography industry has changed over time. A lot. The advent of the micro-stock libraries a few years ago caused a major upheaval and with prices as low as a few $$ to buy a low res image the traditional libraries had to react or go the way of the dinosaurs.
I used to work in IT until a few years ago. I was under a lot of stress at work and getting really p*****d off. Then one day I chose to give it all up and follow a dream. Everyone I knew thought I was nuts, that just made me try harder :-)
I believe any photographer can do what I did, earn money from their photos, maybe even start their own business.
